When I saw the headline on Drudge that the War in Georgia was all just a plot to defeat Obama, I assumed it was either a special comment from Keith Olbermann or pulled from a left wing blog that suffers from Bush Derangement Syndrome. But upon closer inspection the story Russian propaganda outlets mirror American Left---It's a plot by Dick Cheney! turns out to be that even the kooks in Russia see Dick Cheney plotting under every rock.
Putin seems to have invented a time machine that has taken his nation back to the 1970s with a level of paranoia usually reserved for American Left Wing blogosphere. But this goes back to one of my posts from last week--the Russian Invasion is a Huge Mistake by Putin in that the Russian people of today are much too sophisticated and modernized to fall for this lame Retro Brezhnez era propaganda and media lies. The russian people want to be involved with the West not be perceived as returning to the bad old days.
If Putin keeps this up, his popularity will plummet. It has already taken a huge hit. He has made the calculation that he has to do this to keep oil prices high and his commodity economy afloat. But it will backfire.
How must those on the left wing fringe feel tonight that their thought process is being mirrored by a Government that is brutally invading Georgia. The difference is the Russians know it is not true, but the left wing nuts probably think the argument makes great sense.
In the 70s, the Soviets had a term for left wing dupes in America who carried their political water: useful idiots. Seems this time the useful idiots are now giving the Russians a copy of their tried and true talking points.
